Thank you for the comments! As for your question, no, I have never seen Hirst's butterfly artwork. It was wonderful to research the insects as I was preparing to do this painting. They are so amazingly colorful and patterned! Most are too small to be very noticeable until viewed up very close or magnified. The mandala arrangement became a way for me to organize the beetles into 7 families of species.

Clever, and well executed! Inspired by Hirst’s butterfly pieces? At least no insects were sacrificed in yours. Nice work!
